<p>Finding work-life balance in today&#8217;s frenetically paced world is no simple task.</p>
<p>Spend more time at work than at home, and you miss out on a rewarding personal life. Then again, when you face challenges in your personal life, such as caring for an aging parent or coping with marital problems, concentrating on your job can be difficult.</p>
<p>Whether the problem is too much focus on work or too little, when your work life and your personal life feel out of balance, stress — along with its harmful effects — is the result.</p>
<p>The good news is that you can take control of your work-life balance — and give yourself the time to do the things that are most important to you. The first step is to recognize how the world of work has changed. Then you can evaluate your relationship to work and apply some specific strategies for striking a healthier balance.</p>
<h2>How work invades your personal life</h2>
<p>There was a time when employees showed up for work Monday through Friday and worked eight- to nine-hour days. The boundaries between work and home were fairly clear then. But the world has changed and, unfortunately, the boundaries have blurred for many workers. Here&#8217;s why:</p>
<ul>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Global economy.</strong> As more skilled workers enter the global labor market and companies outsource or move more jobs to reduce labor costs, people feel pressured to work longer and produce more just to protect their jobs.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>International business.</strong> Work continues around the world 24 hours a day for some people. If you work in an international organization, you might be on call around the clock for troubleshooting or consulting.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Advanced communication technology.</strong> Many people now have the ability to work anywhere — from their home, from their car and even on vacation. And some managers expect this.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Longer hours.</strong> Employers commonly ask employees to work longer hours than they&#8217;re scheduled. Often, overtime is mandatory. If you hope to move up the career ladder, you may find yourself regularly working more than 40 hours a week to achieve and exceed expectations.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Changes in family roles.</strong> Today&#8217;s married worker is typically part of a dual-career couple, which makes it difficult to find time to meet commitments to family, friends and community.</li>

It can be tempting to rack up the hours at work — especially if you&#8217;re trying to earn a promotion or some extra money for a child&#8217;s education or a dream vacation. For others, working more hours feels necessary in order to manage the workload.</p>
<p>But if you&#8217;re spending most of your time at work, your home life will likely pay the price. Consider the pros and cons of working extra hours on your work-life balance:</p>

<li class="doublespace"><strong>Fatigue.</strong> Your ability to think and your eye-hand coordination decrease when you&#8217;re tired. This means you&#8217;re less productive and may make more mistakes. These mistakes can lead to injury or rework and negatively impact your professional reputation.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Family.</strong> You may miss out on important events, such as your child&#8217;s first bike ride, your father&#8217;s 60th birthday or your high-school reunion. Missing out on important milestones may harm relationships with your loved ones.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Friends.</strong> Trusted friends are a key part of your support system. But if you&#8217;re spending time at the office instead of with them, you&#8217;ll find it difficult to nurture those friendships.</li>
<li class="doublespace"><strong>Expectations.</strong> If you regularly work extra hours, you may be given more responsibility. This could create a never-ending and increasing cycle, causing more concerns and challenges.</li>

<p>Sometimes working overtime is important. If you work for a company that requires mandatory overtime, you won&#8217;t be able to avoid it, but you can learn to manage it. Most importantly, say no when you&#8217;re too tired, when it&#8217;s affecting your health or when you have crucial family obligations.</p>

<p>Most everyone would like to stay young and retain their health up and into their later years.   Research has shown that our attitude and how we see things in our lives can play a big role in the aging process.</p>
<p>Attitude and our mindset can define the personality.   Personality can play a very important role in the aging process.  How you look and how you feel about yourself is very important to your overall health and happiness.</p>
<p>Negative thoughts about your looks can create situations that cause premature aging and possibly other health issues as well.  Comparing ourselves to those who are much younger can be upsetting and depressing, especially if we have unhealthy expectations regarding aging.</p>
<p>There are so many things that one can do to keep themselves looking younger.  Good hygiene, a healthy diet and lots of water is essential to the aging process and keeps one looking and feeling more youthful. Water hydrates the body and the more hydrated we are the more the skin plumps which makes less wrinkles.   Less make up is usually more appealing as we age.  There  are  a number of beautiful lipsticks that do not run.  Softer colors are best.  Colors like peach, mauve and pink are especially good and some women enjoy using gloss.  Most of time anything severe like wearing big flowery prints, clothes that do not fit properly, etc. makes us look older. A good rule of thumb is to stick with simple elegance when it comes to dressing up, wear subtle make up and let your natural beauty shine through.</p>
<p>Nice medium length hair or the short bobs are more flattering as we age.  These styles keep softness around the face.  Real short, severe haircuts tend to call more attention directly to the face and in most cases are not as flattering to the older woman.</p>
<p>Aging is part of the process of life. It is something that we will all experience. Some people just seem to age better.  They seem to age more slowly  and always retain a certain youthfulness about them.  These same indiviudals are usually fun and playful with a sharp mind.</p>
<p>How we feel emotionally and our attitudes in life are a significant factor in our health and well being. Someone who is relaxed and happy will always be much healthier than someone who suffers from depression or has a lot of stress in their life. There&#8217;s only so much the body can cope with before it affects the general health. Negativity will damage your health just the same as any physical illness. It can affect your immune system and leave you vulnerable to sickness and less able to cope.</p>
<p>One such example of this negativity is depression. Medical research has shown that those who develop depression during illness will take much longer to recover and possibly increase their chances of complications occurring. Instead of the body healing, the depression takes over and loses the sense of fight to heal itself. Research shows that patients who have suffered a heart attack and develop depression afterwards have an increased chance of dying in the subsequent six months. People suffering from depression will usually need more medication to help them recover and added healthcare. They increase their chances of developing illness and suffering more severe forms of the illness.</p>
<p>Loneliness is another example of negativity affecting health. Most people have at least some friends or family who are willing to listen when they need a shoulder to cry on or a sympathetic ear. Having support whether it&#8217;s just unloading everyday niggles or moaning about irritating colleagues, makes all the difference and as they say a problem shared is a problem halved. Those who have no friends or relatives don&#8217;t have this support and have to deal with grief, depression and pressure all alone. It&#8217;s always good to be there if someone needs a shoulder or wants to talk about their problems; it may even put your own troubles into perspective.</p>
<p>The modern day world can be a very stressful place. City life is full of crowded public transport, bright lights and loud noises, frantic rush hours and a million and one other everyday stresses. Bills or debt problems add to this and the strain of a career that maybe requires at least ten hours a day in the office. All this means we don&#8217;t get much time for rest and relaxation. Dealing with continuous stress is certain to damage our health eventually and unfortunately it&#8217;s often too late before we realise the danger.</p>
